CEMAFON guest presentation at Fifth BRICS Foundry Forum in Nizhny Novgorod

September 25, 2015

Nizhny Novgorod, the fifth largest city in Russia 400 km east of Moscow, provided the ideal environment for the "Fifth BRICS Foundry Forum" and "XII Congress of Russian Foundrymen". The events took place September 8 through 10 in the congress hall of the Nizhny Novgorod Fairground, in parallel to the trade show "Lityo-2015". Located at the confluence of the rivers Volga and Oka, Nizhny Novgorod has a long history in international trade and is a dedicated place for trade fairs since the early 19th century. Its industrial strength is based on branches such as special steels, railway, aerospace, and automotive technologies.

On the 8th of September, the Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Valery Shantsev, opened the Forum’s plenary session in front of more than 500 participants in the Coat of Arms Hall, followed by a speech of the President of the Russian Association of Foundrymen (RAF) Professor Ivan Dibrov, giving a comprehensive overview of current trends in the Russian foundry industry to the international audience.

The afternoon session was dedicated to international presentations from Brazil, China, India and South Africa. The presidents of the country’s foundry associations – Remo de Simone, Zhang Libo, Vikas Garg and Takalani Madzivhandila – delivered insights into their associations’ activities. Furthermore, CEMAFON – The European Foundry Equipment Suppliers Association – was invited to give a presentation. Ines Polak, Manager Markets & Statistics, spoke on behalf of CEMAFON President Gabriele Galante and CEMAFON General Secretary Dr. Timo Würz. In her presentation, "Technology Partners for Sustainable Foundry Strategies", she illustrated the great potential for cooperation in the fields of innovative machinery and processes.

On the 9th of September, a wealth of technical expert information was provided to the participants divided into three specialized sections around ferrous and non-ferrous castings as well as mould and core production. Close to 80 speakers presented state-of-the-art solutions for a wide range of applications such as railway, automotive or machinery.

A new stage of the cooperation between the BRICS countries foundry associations was celebrated on the 10th of September when the presidents of ABIFA (Brazilian Foundry Association), CFA (China Foundry Association), IIF (Institute of Indian Foundrymen), RAF (Russian Association of Foundrymen) and SAIF (South African Institute of Foundrymen)  signed the ‘Constitution for the Establishment of an Interregional BRICS Foundry Association’ in the framework of an initiative of the UNIDO Centre in the Russian Federation and Russian foundry enterprises of the Industrial Innovation Club of the UNIDO Centre. The BRICS Foundry Association is a cornerstone within the overall BRICS Roadmap representing the industrial cluster of “Metallurgy – Foundry – Machine building” as stated by the Coordinator of  the Industrial Innovation Club of UNIDO Centre in the Russian Federation and National Representative at the BRICS Foundry Forum, Igor Kulkov.

With its wealth of technological expertise and manifold occasions for a fruitful exchange of information in an interesting city with a plenty of cultural heritage, surrounded by the beauty of the Volga region, the hosts from the Russian Foundry Association with President Ivan Dibrov made the Fifth BRICS Foundry Forum a memorable event.
